Kael & Carmen - Kidney Buddies for LifeTen years ago, the sport of ringette brought these two families together (Briggs’ &
Cummings) when their girls started playing. Ringette is so much more than a sport, it’s a
way of life. It creates inclusion, friendships, community, and some might even say
family. The ringette community is built with so many strong-willed, determined like-
minded individuals whose passion for the sport shows both on and off the ice. These
two families have remained friends ever since.
It was through this friendship Carmen found out Kael needed a kidney transplant sooner
than the family anticipated. With the blessing of her family and a call to the ALTRA
Living Donor Program wheels were set in motion. A few months later the news is “we
have a match” and on February 7th Kael & Carmen will become Kidney Buddies for Life.
Kael will receive one of Carmen’s kidneys.
