Hello SMRA!!!
We have some exciting updates and information to share!
SMRA Update Registration:
As registration nears, we wanted to remind everyone of some slight changes this year. If you were at the AGM or read the minutes, you will know that we are planning a collaborative effort between SMRA and Indus Ringette Association for the U12-U19 age groups.
We will be using a third-party evaluation company called Sports Evaluations. This company is used widely in sports for decades. Their software and evaluation team is nonbiased and their evaluators are outsourced from out of either of our districts. Some may come from Red Deer and maybe even Edmonton.
Due to rising ice fees over the past few years we have had to make slight adjustments to our fees. Please see the website for these changes.
CRL Update - Please read the RAB residency policy. RAB is cracking down on player releases and have instructed that player requesting release must fall within the guidelines of the Residency Policy. SMRA may not be allowed to permit a release pending the criteria for the release.
SMRA Update Summer Ringette:
Registration opens June 1. Please see website for more info!
CRL Update - U10 Step 2:
This year, Ringette Alberta is looking to allow Step 2 teams to play full ice starting in January. The details aren’t worked out but due to team sizes, they may be 40-45 minute games.
CRL Update - U16 and U19:
This year, the u16 and U19 groups will be playing 4 x 10 minute quarters with 1 minute break between the 1&2 and 3&4 and a 2 minute break at half time. This will still remain a 75 minute ice slot.
RAB Update - U12A Goalies:
For the U12A group, the rule may be changed to allow a goalie to play 100%. The B and C division will remain as is.
RAB Update - Alberta Winter Games:
This year the Alberta Winter Games will be held in the Lakeland Region. U16 and U19 athletes will be able to tryout so long as they are not playing AA.
COACHING OPPORTUNITIES - they will be looking for female coaches. You do not have to have a child in that age group to be part of the experience. If this is something that may interest you, please let us know by emailing - vicepresident@strathmoreringette.com
CRL Update - RAMP Reporting
As RAMP data is very important to CRL for Tiering, Goalie play in U12 and many other data driven factors, CRL is looking to have a stronger presence in educating the members on how to use it properly. There will be disciplinary actions added to improper reporting this year. First offence will be a verbal warning from the CRL Div Coordinator, 2nd offence will be a loss of 2 points for the applicable team, 3rd offence will be a loss of 2 points for the applicable team and a $250.00 fine to the association.
CRL Update - Disciplinary Actions:
Discipline - Changes here are the recommended ones. Going forward would like to go with if a
player receives 3 majors/unsportsmanlike penalties this would then trigger a 1 game automatic
suspension. When the player reaches 5 majors/unsportsmanlike penalties this would then
trigger an in person discipline hearing and the committee would then decide on the amount of
games to be served. If the player reaches 7 majors/unsportsmanlike penalties then an
automatic 5 games suspension. If this was to happen in Session 3 and the player was to reach
provincials the suspension would be handed to RAB to fulfill.
In person hearings - These would be scheduled the 15th and the last Thursday of each month.
No player can play any games(CRL, Exhibition, tournament) until the hearing has been
completed.
ADD - Excess penalty Mins at U14-U19
During the course of the season, the Chinook Ringette League div coordinators will check for
players that are consistently exhibiting poor sportsmanship and committing infractions on a
consistent basis.
All players' penalty minutes will be checked quarterly. Chinook Ringette League will not look at
random games but at consecutive games in a row based on the season being broken up into 4
quarters (number of games per quarter is based on the total number of games in the season).
Once a player has reached the threshold as listed below, they will then follow the guidelines
listed. Note that this process will start once the player has met the threshold.
Guidelines are as follows:
threshold based on the following formula will receive a warning email.
season.
threshold based on the following formula will receive a one (1) game automatic suspension.
the games in the season.
threshold based on the following formula will be suspended for three (3) games.
the games in the season
Example: A player averages 2 mins/game in quarter 1, no warning will be issued. After quarter
2, averages 4 mins/game they will be issued a warning as listed below.
Further disciplinary actions will be based on the guidelines listed.
Email notifications of warnings or suspensions will be sent to the coach/manager/parent of the
team. Supplementary discipline may also be imposed at any time following a game sheet
review.
CRL Update - Rankings for Session 3
- Currently we use all 16 games for rankings.
- Would like to align with BGL and move to this to using Session 2 games only
- This also allows the CRL to create pools within the divisions to allow for equitable games
- In this situation the bottom pool can not rank higher than the higher pool in Session 3
rankings
CRL Update - New Mic’d up Pilot Program
- AI driven mics that are worn by officials
- Looking for abusive & negative language towards officials
